The Vision

Ditsowo U started as an idea and vision 19 years ago. This vision grew in Danilo Layan
since childhood and continues to this day. At its very heart lies his fundamental desire to
help his people the Bribri as well as the Cabekar, the only other tribe that inhabits the
Indigenous Reserve of Talamanca.

He strives for the recognition of their existence, their international, human rights, and sadly
also their constitutional rights as Costa Ricans. They and the other few remaining
indigenous tribes are, after all, the original inhabitants of this country.

When he mentioned this vision to friends, family and others, everybody declared him for
mad.

Now, 19 years later, Danilo Layan’s vision is a solid, well-established and publicly
recognized social project with tourism as its primary source of income to be able to fund
the various social projects that he has started (single handed), prompted by the lack of
government attention regarding the well-being of the indigenous population in the Reserve.

As a result, Indigenous Adventures was born. To further aid his struggle for the rights of his people and their well-being.
